Kate Bingaman-Burt = Obsessive Consumption

I have been following Obsessive Consumption for a little over two years now. Kate has this awesome blog where she posts her most recent drawings, check it out: Obsessive Consumption: What Did You Buy Today?

I have always found her work really easy to relate to, being that I am very much part of the consumer culture, born in the “plastic” generation. Over the last few years I have cut up my fair share of credit cards, but I do still have a few in my wallet. Tonight I used one of them…to buy this rad drawing from Kate’s Etsy store (click here to enter site).

Her store is full of really neat stuff, I went with the “Choose Your Very Own Daily Purchase Drawing plus bonus zine” option. I plan on hanging the drawing up on my wall 🙂 So which drawing did I choose? Well with tons to choose from I was looking for the “perfect” one for me and I found it!!

Now, let me give you the story as to why this drawing is so “perfect” for me! The drawing is from July 5, 2008. July 2008 was when I made my BIG move to NYC. Not only was this move a big deal for me as I just graduated from college and was moving to the big city, but the move was also CRAZY STRESSFUL! My brother Jesse helped me move and for that I will always be eternally grateful, he was my hero! Unloading the Uhaul in the blazing summer heat was not a pleasant experience, then I got a parking ticket from a very miserable cop, and I was overcharged when I returned the Uhaul to some very angry men… Overall, not a good day. As my brother and I WALKED from returning the Uhaul back to my new apartment we were both starving and overheating. So, after grabbing some burgers, we decided to go watch Wall-E at the local cinema where we could sit in the a/c. The movie was cute, and we were able to cool off and relax. I don’t think I will ever be able to forget this day, and I doubt my brother will either. But, just in case, when I’m in my 90’s and losing my mind…I’ll have this great drawing by Kate Bingaman-Burt to remind me!
