Artist’s Project: Dictionary

The Artist’s Project for The NY Art Book Fair 2011 was Dictionary by Marc Hundley. You can be sure I snatched up one of those free posters. I also picked up a copy of the $10 book as the $5,000 fair edition was just slightly out of my price range.

“Synopsis: This small volume presents illustrated selections from the American Heritage Dictionary that hold erotic personal significance for the artist. The softcover book is modeled on a German student’s reader, and organizes words and phrases such as bascule, foreshorten, lifeboat, Guglielmo Marconi, mortise, stinkhorn and tutu alphabetically. The compilation uncovers the inadvertent sexual overtones and undertones that seem apparent in the most unassuming terms.” –Printed Matter
