Jason DeMarte

March 14, 2011

A couple of months ago I mentioned how much I was looking forward to hearing Jason DeMarte talk about his Utopic series at SPE and this past Friday I was not disappointed.

During his lecture, “Utopic, Our Artificial Relationship with Nature”, Jason talked about his pop art inspirations, his earlier work, and his interest in the “false reaction”. His work gives you a hint of context, and then upon closer inspection, falls apart. I have always been a fan of his Utopic series and was really happy I was able to hear him talk about how it came about and, in general, his process as an artist.
