This past Friday I was over at Rochester Contemporary Art Center for the “What I Did On My Summer Vacation – Two Rochester Artists Go To Burning Man” lecture. Local artists Aydin Ture and Eddie Davis III shared their experiences of the 2010 Burning Man Festival.
While I was at RoCo I browsed the gallery as I had yet to view the 20th Annual Members Exhibition. While I was walking around I ran into an old friend and we started talking about the upcoming exhibition Makers & Mentors and I was scolded for not knowing who Wendell Castle was. I know, I know. Clearly I have been living under a rock. He’s only the “father of the art furniture movement.”
After browsing the Wendell Castle Collection website I immediately started making a mental “wish list.” Wouldn’t it be great if my entire apartment could be furnished with these lovelies? The Riposo bed is a must-have.
Makers & Mentors opens at RoCo February 4th with an Artists’ Talk on February 6th. Exhibition runs through March 13. If you’re in the area be sure to check it out!
