August always feels like the LONGEST month of the year, and this year was no different.
August 6th State of the City 2010 opened at RoCo. Show is up through September 19th (this Sunday), so if you haven’t checked it out yet…GO! Amy Casey is one of the artists. I first came across her work on 20×200. You can check out her edition here.
Casey’s piece “Breakwall” is my favorite piece. I think. There are just so many to choose from!
Remember back in June I mentioned going to hear Trevor Flynn talk at Memorial Art Gallery? Well, for this exhibition he created a space for gallery patrons to participate in a community draw. By the looks of the wall, it was a huge success!
August 6th artist Karen Brummund was at VSW covering the front facade of the building with paper for her “Time-Based Architecture” piece. It is on view through September 26, 2010. Mother Nature is having her way with all of that hanging paper. I live right around the corner and it’s been interesting watch the change as the weeks have passed.
Somehow I didn’t take any pics of the progression of the installation process (or I just can’t find them), so the above 2 images are from the VSW website. The pic below I took walking to class this morning. Some paper is still hanging on. The wheat paste that was used is mighty strong!
August 7th I walked around the Park Ave Festival with my mom and brother who were in town for the weekend. It was nice to relax with family and enjoy the sights. There were a lot of different artists and vendors this year! We were only able to hang out for a couple of hours before the event was closing down for the night, but I was able to walk away with a new Lucky Bamboo! I found the perfect spot on top of my DVD shelving unit.
Please ignore the bad on-camera flash. Ha! Speaking of camera, do you see my new one? Love.
I decided a new look for my blog was in order.
NEW LOOK w/ matching buttons!
With the new look I decided to minimize the sidebar by deleting all of the crazy widgets I had. Yep, I was widget crazy. Ha!
How did my August wrap-up? GRAD SCHOOL STARTED!! Yep, that’s right. August 30, 2010 I attended my first class in graduate school. It feels good to be back in the world of academia.
I just noticed I forgot to include in my July Updates that I redesigned my website! How could I have possibly overlooked that?! Then again, the July Updates post was already annoyingly long. So I’m tacking this on to August!
I have also put together a “Web Design” Flickr set to keep track of all of the designs I have been through. Check it out!
OK, I think that’s it! Thanks for reading!
